Coronavirus Update

Following government directives, all OiR group activities will cease until further notice, effective from 17th March. The AGM which was due to be held on Tuesday 21st April has also been postponed.

The wellbeing of our members must be our prime consideration, and whilst this was a difficult decision, it was a unanimous one. Like everyone, we look forward to the situation improving, but it is unlikely that things will return to normal for some months to come.
The OiR office is closed to personal visitors (from Tuesday 17th March) but will be contactable by phone or email between 10am and 2pm on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays.

We understand that suddenly stopping all group activities will have a huge impact on our members, many of whom live alone and rely on OiR to provide companionship, friendship and social interaction, OiR want to reassure our members that you are not being abandoned – we are still here for you!
Although the groups will not be meeting, you can contact the office for support and advice, even if you just need to chat to someone. We are all in this together and no one should feel that they are on their own.

Updates will be posted on this website and on our Facebook page:,OirAyr.

This page has been created to praise the efforts of our local shops and traders who have provided a service above and beyond their normal operating parameters. Shops that have stayed open despite the health risks involved to their staff to provided a home delivery service or a click and collect, or indeed both, to lessen the risk of infection to their customers.

Some endorsements from our members:

Because of the Coronavirus I am reluctant to go shopping but I needed a list of things to get me started on some home jobs. I have shopped in Wrights Home Hardware several times and always found what I needed. Sometimes, with the aid of knowledgeable, friendly, and courteous staff.
In this instance I phoned the store and asked them if they would take an order and deliver it. I gave the list to the assistant who said she would phone me back, and sure enough within half an hour she returned my call. She said she had everything I wanted, and gave me the cost which I paid by card.
She then told me it would be delivered that afternoon. That afternoon my order was on my door step delivered by a nice young man. As there was a 40L bag of compost, too heavy, for me to carry, I asked if he would take it round the back. No problem!

One I have used since returning to Prestwick 3 years ago is Jim Brown's Newsagent shop at The Cross in Prestwick.  I would like to thank Jim and his staff for providing a friendly and very reliable service at no little risk to themselves.  This local business has continued to be there for the community throughout the present difficulties by keeping the well stocked shop open and also delivering daily papers which is really appreciated when we are encouraged to stay at home. Well done Jim and staff. - Andrew

Kennedy Roofing retiled my roof  last year.
Lovely surprise when this lockdown kicked off, Clive Kennedy rang my door bell to enquire as to my well-being and if I needed anything? Since then he has been in touch a couple of times.
Being of the old fashioned brigade and remembering when this was the norm, warmed the cockles. - Graham
