Update from your former Chairman – 14th April 2020

As we move further into our period of social distancing due to the coronavirus, I would like to send my best wishes to all our members.

Following government advice, our office is closed to the public for the foreseeable future, but our Office Manager, Margaret, is working from home.

If you telephone the office number your call will be forwarded to Margaret.

Betty McDonald has set up a Daily Chat e-mail distribution and contact circulation. This is now well established and anyone wishing to join this group should contact Betty directly.

Your Committee, thanks to John Rattenbury’s initiative, has continued to meet online using the “Zoom” conferencing facility, and other groups are also indicating that they are setting up similar facilities for their own groups.

On a personal matter, the Committee has agreed that I will step down as Chair on 21st April, the date for the AGM, and your Vice Chair, Arnie Green will take over from me. Barry Southwood will take on the role of Vice Chair. I will, for the meantime, remain as an ordinary member of committee. These appointments will require to be ratified by the rescheduled AGM. I am grateful to the Committee members who have given me such excellent support over the past two years, and am especially grateful to Arnie and Barry for taking up office and ensuring the continuity of leadership in the Committee.

Finally, I would like to thank the membership for all the support I have received during the past two years, in what has at times been a difficult period of Chairmanship.

Best wishes to you all in these difficult times.

David (Bowman)
